Generally speaking, the diet and weight of the female dog will increase after pregnancy. Therefore, we should pay special attention to the diet of the female dog during pregnancy. For the sake of the health of the female dog and the pup after birth, we should arrange their diet reasonably.

Although the food consumption of pregnant dogs will increase correspondingly, we must control the food consumption well and not cause the obesity of female dogs due to excessive feeding, so as to have an impact on the delivery of puppies. The weight of pregnant female dogs will increase rapidly in the last four weeks of pregnancy. If the dog is fed too much in the early stage of pregnancy, it will lead to obesity, which will affect her delivery. In general, pregnant female dogs should be fed 10 to 15 percent more per week from the 15th week of pregnancy. A female should be fed 50 percent more at the time of birth than at the time of mating. During pregnancy, because the uterus occupies a large amount of space in the abdomen, the stomach of the female dogs cannot be normally dilated. Therefore, it’s better to eat less and more meals every day.

We should feed high nutrition food and it must be delicious to meet the needs of the female dogs. During the lactation period, the demand for nutrition and energy will gradually increase. During this period, the female dogs will eat three to four times the food equivalent to the ordinary dog, so as to provide sufficient milk for the puppies and ensure their own good physical condition. The peak period of lactation is about 3-4 weeks, and the mother dog provides 4-7% of the weight of her puppies with milk every day. At this time, the female dogs still needs to eat less and more meals, and feed about 3 to 4 times a day. The food still needs to be delicious and nutritious. For the sake of the health of the female dogs and the puppies to be born, we should provide them with rich nutrition as much as possible, but not too much. Reasonable diet can ensure that both the female dogs and the puppies can meet the good nutrition needs.
